Cloutier consists of the brothers Mark and Myke Cloutier, a hard driving blues rock band based out of Syracuse, New York. Their first album is titled Thunder N Lightning and a very good one it is.
The disc gets off to a rocking start with the fast moving bluesy rockabilly of “Flipping and Flapping”. The slightly gravelly vocals and guitar riffs are as catchy as anything I have heard recently. The guitar has just the right amount of bite and the beat drives the song home. For something a little slower but no less grittier try the burning blues of “Whispering Howling Wind”. With a title like that it just had to be heavy on the blues. The rocking “Every Little Thing” and “Hard Luck Man” burn with intensity while the quieter “I Call Home” is a lovely ballad with emotive vocals and guitar supplemented with a nice string arrangement. Although the band does not stray far from their bluesy rock roots, that’s precisely what makes this a concise and cohesive group of songs. Blues rock is what these gents do, and they do it very well.
