If you're a musician like me you'll understand what I mean when I say, "if this band ever played in 4/4 time they would be considered weird." LOL! Really though, this music is as complex Prog Metal as it gets. They have a lot of albums too,6+2 EP's from 2006. They hail from New Jersey and I am absolutely blown away by their songs on this album which as of this writing hasn't been released yet. The arrangements are neck breaking in structure. So many time changes you actually stop noticing. The bass player,Chris Alfano is mind boggling most of the time. Reminded me of the bassist in the one and done Norwegian band,Spiral Architect-A Skeptic's Universe (a masterpiece of the genre) in the technicality of his playing. I play guitar, keyboards and recently bought a Rickenbacker 4003,and he left me dizzy. This style is so out of my league anyway I can't help but be mesmerized by it. I now have to journey backwards and listen to what came before NP-Complete.
There are two blistering instrumentals on here "Fast Bang Pooper Doop" and "N Of 1". The vocals are great but three times he decides to growl the cookie monster thing which I never liked or understood. They say that Barney from Napalm Death started that but I really don't know for sure.
I'm giving NP-Complete 4.5 stars. Notching off .5 for the three unnecessary growls, but still an amazing band that apparently is planning on longevity and good on them. If you like absolutely unpredictable Prog Metal East Of The Wall is right in your wheelhouse.
