Ossuarium: Living Tomb

There are multiple reasons to listen to Ossuarium’s debut album, but the best thing a potential fan should do is look at the cover art. Created by Dan Seagrave, a legend in the metal community, the cover does everything it’s supposed to. It establishes a dark and foreboding space, one that you want to explore even though you might be afraid of what you’ll find.

For those interested in delving into the music within, they’ll find a crushing blend of death / doom that never lets up. This is the music of the shambling corpse, a brutal and powerful force that never lets up until rot and decay eventually catch up to it.

Ossuarium grabbed our attention back in 2017 with their demo Calcified Trophies of Violence. With this album, the band makes good on their initial promise. This is 40 minutes of heavy, impressive, and wrathful music. Check out “Vomiting Black Death,” a superb track that shows off the band’s rhythmic intensity and that also features some impressive guitar work. I also suggest both parts of “End of Life Dreams and Visions.” If this is the soundtrack to those dreams and visions, I don’t want to see them. Just hearing them is enough to scare me away.

Ossuarium claims inspiration from bands like Vastum, Disembowelment, Anhedonist, Runemagick, Spectral Voice, Mournful Congregation, and several others. If you like any of those bands, you’ll definitely find something to interest you here. But this is not simply an album you’ll enjoy because it reminds you of something else you like. This is something you’ll enjoy all on its own.
