Seax: Fallout Rituals

Hailing from Massachusetts is the Speed Metal band, Seax, who are releasing their 4th album, Fallout Rituals (Shadow Kingdom Records). Founded in 2009, Seax are proudly a “Speed Metal” band and this latest release very much has that DIY sound and attitude. Sounding like this record was recorded in 1984, Fallout Rituals has that very underproduced, local Metal band flavor to it. Songs are quite speedy (for speed sake) with Metal Garage Band type, hyper staccato riffs and high pitched screeching vocals. Besides their Ramones meets generic 80’s Euro Speed Metal bland songs, it is those caterwauling vocals that make this record very difficult to digest. Insert that “guy stepping on a cat” old gag and your are getting very close to the vocal performance on EVERY song on Fallout Rituals. It’s just not very good, period.

Fallout Rituals just sounds like a High School band from the 80’s trying to learn how to write some fast Metal songs after hearing Death Angel, Exodus and Kreator for the first time, with a singer squealing over the top of it all. I couldn’t wait for these 10 songs to be over with. The artwork is pretty good, though.

Razzle - Guitar
