DC Sound Collective: Dirae Pax

I have reviewed quite a lot of music from Daniel Crommie over the years including some of his projects like the latest CD from DC Sound Collective titled Dirae Pax. This is his third album from 2018 so there is no doubt Crommie is a very busy guy.

The album contains a total of ten tracks; six are new while four were previously heard on his 2016 EP Following The Noise. I have always found this collective pretty interesting and this latest platter is no exception.

The previously released tracks from the Following the Noise EP (you can read my review on this site) includes the rocking alternative sounding “Ghostwriter”, the very catchy “Candidate” with its sitar-like acoustic guitar, the robotic sounding “Dante” which includes tasty guitar and flute and the lovely “Let’s Play Army”, one of the album's most poignant moments. Of the new tracks my favourites are the catchy “Next Exit 7”, sounding a bit Tull-like with its flute escapades, the instrumental “Gravel Underfoot” with its breezy flute motifs contrasting with some techno sounds and the proggy “Industry Man” where peppy new wave sounds meet trippy ambient moments. The Eastern flavoured guitar adds more variety into the mix.

As with all of Crommie’s work I enjoyed some tracks more than others but overall Dirae Pax is a nice collection of tunes
