So, here is a genre I am completely unfamiliar with. Lo-fi dream pop, or is that even a genre? I’m not sure to be honest but those words certainly apply to Beejay and his new project Shindigs. The idea came to him while living in Korea. He began making music in his apartment and releasing his music on bandcamp, completely a DIY project. Cleopatra Records picked him up and the result is titled c h ill a nd.
This is a very mellow and dreamy album filled with melodic keys and guitars, often blurred together forming the hooks and laid over the drum beat. This is really the opposite of progressive rock as music doesn’t get much simpler than this. Does that mean it’s band? Not at all but I think the sweet cloying melodies will wear away eventually forming a vacuum where my ears will desire something a little more substantial. That said, I can’t fault the melodies and catchiness as every song has the sweetness factor set to high. All I can say is if you enjoy melodic pop music and are curious to hear some dream pop by all means check out the artist on bandcamp. See the link below.
