Orkestra Eustoria: HyperGiant Hi-Fi

HyperGiant Hi-Fi is the debut album from Orkestra Eustoria, a new York based jazz ensemble led by saxophonist Peter Sparacino. This is another one of those jazz albums that is a little different sounding due to the use of ethereal keyboard sounds and layered effects. HyperGiant Hi-Fi is indeed an impressive first album beginning with “Epicity”, preceded by a short intro of dreamy keys and sax. Keyboards fade in and out as the tempo varies in speed. A languid and sumptuous bass line give this one a defined bottom end. The sax is great throughout whether adding melodic rhythms or more esoteric lines. “FutureClub” is another excellent track featuring pensive keyboard textures and wonderful lead sax. The fuzzy keyboard tones spice things up. With “Interlude 1” Sparacino uses sax overdubs to great effect creating a really cool layering of sounds while “InterDweller” is almost spacey in its approach. More highlights include the outstanding keyboard solo in “The Hustle” and the lovely chilled out sound and groove in “Le Bumpier”.

This band has no weak links as the musicianship, both composed and improvised is superb. I am really digging this album, I hope you will too.
