It's been a few years since we've last seen Spanish heavy rock/psych/stoner trio Prisma Circus, but they are back with their latest platter of trippy sounds, titled MKII: Promethea's Armageddon. At roughly 30 minutes and 8 tracks, it's pretty short by album length standards and closer to an EP, but it's jam packed with some sizzling sounds, from the psychedelic opening title track, the scorching blues rock of "El Blues del Matusser", and the wild Deep Purple guitar/Hammond organ exchanges of the red hot instrumental "el loco y el Mago", there's plenty of exciting music to be found. Joaquin Escudero Arce handles vocals, bass, acoustic guitar, and percussion, Alexandre Sanches Miralles plays electric guitars, and Antonio Tamargo Rodriguez contributes drums, percussion, keyboards, and acoustic guitar. "Fake Coral Snake" combines bit of stoner rock with psychedelia, strong vocals soaring over blistering guitar licks, busy drumming, and more of that delightful Hammond organ. If you love early Grand Funk Railroad mixed with some Cactus, check out the barnstorming "The Obsolete Man", and "El guÃa de la Santa Compaña" is searing blues rock at its finest, Arce singing in his native tongue while Miralles puts on a clinic with some sensational wah-wah drenched lead guitar work.
In short, I really dig the never ending grooves and retro/trippy vibe of this album, Prisma Circus once again have knocked it out of the park on this sophomore release. Psych/stoner/blues rock fans will want to investigate this one right away!
