Cascade Into Chaos presents the final recordings from the late ex-Motorhead guitarist Wurzel and his band Leader of Down. Though he passed away in 2011, Wurzel and the band, which includes vocalist Matt Baker, guitarist Alex Ward, bassist Tim Atkinson, and drummer Steve Clarke (ex-Fastway), had been working on this album since 2008, but with the death of the guitarist and the album not quite finished, the surviving members of the band have been meticulously putting the finishing touches on the album over the years and it's now seeing the light of the day on Cleopatra Records. Plenty of guest stars appear on this grungy hard rock records, including Motorhead luminaries Lemmy, Fast Eddie Clarke, and Phil Campbell, and it's on those songs where things click the most here, such as "Paradise Turned Into Dust", "Children of Disease", "Snakebite", and "Laugh at the Devil", the latter especially sounding like some long lost leftover from the Ace of Spades days with Lemmy's familiar croak and Clarke's slashing guitar riffs, and worth the price of admission alone. Elsewhere, kind of formulaic hard rock with a few decent riffs thrown in, but much of the album sounds unfinished and poorly produced, not to mention very brief at barely 30 minutes in length. Still, enough to recommend here, especially for any Wurzel fan and Motorhead completist.
