Stephen Pearcy's last solo album Smash didn't exactly set the world on fire, and with all the bad publicity the Ratt vocalist has seen lately with embarrassing live displays that are plastered all over YouTube, expectations are pretty low for his new solo outing View to a Thrill. Can't blame any of that on Erik Ferentinos, Pearcy' red hot lead guitarist, who does his best on this new Frontiers Records release to help all longtime Ratt fans to hopefully jump on board. Plenty of solid riffing and blistering lead guitar work on tracks such as "U Only Live Twice", "Malibu ", "Secrets to Tell", and the especially extra crunchy "From the Inside", revealing an exceptional guitar player who really has a lot to say. Unfortunately, Pearcy doesn't quite hold up his end of the bargain, his vocals fairly listless throughout, the lyrics at times juvenile and pedestrian, and hardly any of these songs contain choruses that we'll be remembering two weeks from now. "I'm your Violator, the Instigator...the final shot, meet your final maker"...ugh.
Someone asked me a question recently, and that question was 'out of all the old time rockers out there still touring & recording new music, who in your opinion needs to stop?' Well, I think you have your answer right here.
