Neuronspoiler: Second Sight

British Metal band, Neuronspoiler, manage to combine the elements of Power Metal, Classic Hard Rock and even Thrash Metal into their latest full length record, Second Sight (Dissonance Productions). Four years in the making, this their second full length album, is full of aggressive tones, modern production and some balls.

With a sound that could have easily fit in with the NWOBHM, Neuronspoiler have 8 tracks on Second Sight that remind the listener of early Iron Maiden and modern day Judas Priest, while delivered with vocals reminiscent of "The Tyrant" Harry Conklin (Jag Panzer) with glimpses of higher registered Dickinson and Halford thrown in. Songs like "Slay The Beast" open with a familiar Steve Harris-like bass line from the Somewhere In Time era and "Hidden Agenda" is a more straight ahead Rocker with a catchy enough chorus and a harmony guitar lead. Neuronspoiler also include a cover of the David Bowie classic, "Heart Of A Lion", but done more like the heavy versions by Racer X and Judas Priest than the 70's Bowie flavor.

Overall, Neuronspoiler's Second Sight is a decent release but tends to meander a bit towards the boring. Nothing quite stands out and nothing quite sucks either, so you have yourself a stalemate of a Metal record. Their album cover is a really good one, but I feel that might be the best part of this second release. Second Sight is very much a Metal vocal driven record, so if you enjoy the soaring and searing vocal style, then this might be for you. Other than that, Second Sight is basically OK, not something that would be spending a lot of time on my music player of choice.
