Outer Heaven’s full-length debut will definitely establish this band as an extreme and uncompromising Death Metal force. The band has only been together a few years, but their shorter releases and their live shows gave fans hope that Outer Heaven is a band to watch. They won’t be disappointed. There are plenty of Death Metal bands out there, but Outer Heaven stands out because their music is legitimately exciting and interesting. From track to track, they breathe life into the genre. The songwriting is tight, focused, and dark and the performances are impressive. Tracks like “Multicellular Savagery” and “Tortured Winds” were especially strong because they highlighted the band’s effective use of rhythm and groove. These guys know how to keep things interesting and their songs are never so long that they drag. I also thought the album’s overall mix sounded great. The music is just clean enough to sound impressive but keeps just enough crust and dirt on everything to avoid any pretense. I’m not in the habit of describing music as spewing out of my speakers, but this album does just that. Check out "Putrid Dwellings" and "Decaying Realms." Highly recommended.
