Kingcrow: The Persistence

Italian Progressive Metal band Kingcrow have released a new album entitled, The Persistence (Sensory Records). Formulated from equal parts of Prog Rock, Ambient, Alternative and modern Metal, Kingcrow have presented another step in the bands growth and have delivered a killer record. Elements of bands such as Pain of Salvation, Steven Wilson/Porcupine Tree, Riverside and Opeth creep into the bands aural assault and gives The Persistence a far-reaching depth to the 10 tracks contained within.

Intricate musicianship is highlighted throughout The Persistence and is coupled with airy keyboards, electronica that is also full of guitar crunch within their delicate tapestries. Vocal performances are both soothing and emotively heartfelt, while they weave in and out of some beautifully crafted songs. “Night’s Descending” is one such example of the gorgeous and fragile beauty that Kingcrow have come up with and it also features a duet with Pain of Salvation’s Daniel Gildenlow. It reminds me of TesseracT without ever actually sounding like those U.K. lads, at all.

Mournful and elegant, Kingcrow have a winner with their seventh full-length record, The Persistence. With 10 tracks of well written and often melancholy offerings that lead to beautiful modern day Prog Rock, The Persistence should find a home with Prog fans. Soaring vocals, great musicianship, excellent songs, with tight and punchy production, not much not to like here.
