Krisiun: Scourge of the Enthroned

One of the best power trios in all of death metal, Brazil's Krisiun are at it again, delivering another slab of molten, technical extreme metal for Century Media, this one titled Scourge of the Enthroned. If you never imagined that death metal could be catchy, you just haven't listened to Alex Camargo (vocals, bass), Moyses Kolesne (guitar) and Max Kolesne (drums), three guys who have been tearing it up for close to three decades now with their brand of pulverizing music that is equal parts brutality and technicality. On this latest effort, the band are doing what they do best, rampaging through eight tracks of old school death metal, the drumming off the charts, the guitar riffs & solos complex & blazing, and the vocals gurgling but still very easy to understand. The title track kicks things off in fine form and it doesn't let up from there, the trio plowing their way through one howitzer after another, other highlights being the raging "Demonic III", the headbanging fury of the Slayer-meets-Vader rampage "Devouring Faith" (check out that blistering guitar solo or those pummeling drums!), or the frantic ferocity of "A Thousand Graves", the arrangement so complex and fast it will leave you dizzy. Krisiun never disappoints when it comes to delivering monstrous riffs, and you can expect plenty of them here, especially on "Electricide" and "Whirlwind of Immortality", where pounding heft meets blazing complexity.

Another one of those bands that just never releases a bad album, Krisiun have knocked it out of the park again on Scourge of the Enthroned. Death metal doesn't get much better than this folks.
