Atlas: In Pursuit of Memory

Atlas? I’m not familiar with their work. Let’s have a dig and find out more before we have a listen.

Apparently they are a melodic rock band from the North of England comprised of James Thorley (Keyboards, programming and percussion), John Moss (Lead Guitars), Howie Little (Lead Guitars), Chris Redfearn (Bass Guitar) and Craig Wells (Lead Vocals). Keyboard player Thorley founded the band in early 2017 with the intention to create a group that centered its roots around the AOR and melodic rock genre whilst delving into other areas of hard rock, metal, Progressive and even jazz! If that doesn’t make things sound SoT centric then I don’t know what does.

I’m not 100% sold on the lead vocals especially in the higher register but In Pursuit of Memory (apart from having an excellent cover) has some pretty decent tunes on it. The opener "Samsara" is nicely layered and shows good understanding of how to put a track together in the studio- he said somewhat patronizingly but not meaning it in that way. These guys definitely know what they are doing. Atlas do a nice line in driving rock as very much evidenced by "Bad Habit" and the keyboards are somewhat like Hagar era Van Halen but more underpinning the sound rather than leading it. I could do without a couple of tunes in the middle especially "Lock and Key" but when you add in the tasteful guitars which occasionally go into a full on twin assault Atlas have a lot going for them.

Track Listing:
1. Samsara
2. Bad Habit

5. As Time Goes By
6. In The Frame
7. Lock and Key
8. Seasons Change
9. Signal of Hope
10. Letting Go
11. Supernova
12. Live and Forget
