Reviewing music for a website like Sea of Tranquility isn’t always as glamorous as it might seem. Take, for example, when we receive a CD such as Between War and Terror by Switzerland’s Constraint. With no band information provided, a website written in German and a weak Facebook page, we don’t have a lot to go on in the way of background details to provide an informative review. (Note: These guys are not to be confused with the German hardcore band of the same name formed in the Nineties.)
That said, Constraint is a riff-heavy thrash-metal band with English lyrics that are either growled or shouted by a dude named Stefan. And the songs on Between War and Terror sound almost exactly as you would expect them to, given the album’s title. A twin-guitar attack from Cyrill and Adrian give Constraint an extra-chunky sound that’s backed by Marcel’s tight bass and Florian's violent drumming. I can hear elements of Metallica, Megadeth and a bunch of generic thrash bands that have come and gone over the past four decades. That might be all you need to know, after all.
