Drahk Von Trip: Is Us

Swedish sextet Drahk Von Trip present us with "Is Us" a four track demo EP from 2003. The band blends symphonic progressive with elements of psychedelic rock and a slight dark edge reminiscent of a more subdued The Red Masque. The vocals sometimes even manage to sound like Lynette Shelley, but don't quite reach her range or power. Musically speaking, the tracks tend to start off ominously and slowly build to a crescendo where some strong drumming and nimble fretwork takes over.

Although I doubt that this demo will see the light of day as a bona fide release, it's an excellent vehicle to showcase the band's debut full length album which will be released in the spring of 2005.Hopefully the sound quality on the album will be a bit better than on this demo. I will be very anxious to hear this release as the demo has enough interesting musical ideas going on in these four tracks to pique one's curiosity. A possible diamond in the rough.
