Soldat Hans: Es Taut

Soldat Hans has a solid reputation for strong musicianship and complex compositions. On this album, they give listeners nearly an hour's worth of new music that should keep fans in good stead for years to come. The music is hard to describe, but it's safe to call it a playful blend of dark jazz, doom, post-rock, and drone. The best way to understand it is simply to listen to it for a while. I find the music quite dark but there are moments when other moods prevail.

There are only three tracks on this album, but there's nearly an hour's worth of music to enjoy here. I suspect that some listeners will find the music innovative and interesting in all the right ways. Others may find them taxing. Long songs can be risky, especially if listeners aren't willing to follow the band everywhere they go. I think most people will find something here to enjoy even if there are times when the music requires a little patience. For those willing to put in the time, this is definitely a rewarding album, especially for those who want to hear something long, experimental, and well-performed.
