Preludio Ancestral: Oblivion

Preludio Ancestral hail from Argentina, and their fourth album Oblivion has recently been released via Fighter Records. These guys play speedy & epic power metal, and are an easy recommendation for any fan of Gamma Ray, Rhapsody of Fire, Stratovarius, and Labyrinth. Plenty of double bass drumming, frantic riffing, flashy solos, a sprinkling of keyboards, and over the top high pitched vocals permeate Oblivion, some of the highlights being the anthemic "King of Silence", the galloping and quite catchy "Fear of Falling", the first pumping "Ready to Rock", and the crunchy power metal thumper "Dust World". The lead vocals throughout are pretty decent, though in some instances more of an accent come through than on others, and the overall musicianship is pretty spot on. Where Oblivion loses some points is on the generic tendencies of some of the songwriting, as a few of the tracks sound like any of the many South American power metal acts we've heard over the last decade. Still, there's enough positives to be found on their new album to recommend to anyone who is intrigued enough to investigate.
