Thundermother: Thundermother

The awesome Swedish all-girl band Thundermother, that does instantly remind the new listener of a female AC/DC, with their straight ahead and less distorted guitar riffing, have gone through some major changes that would have crippled a lesser band. Originally a 5 piece band, 4 of the 5 members left the band in 2017 and were replaced by 3 new members and Thundermother are now a quartet! The band's centerpiece and founding member and guitarist, Filippa Nässil, stood pat with her vision and has reinvented a new and powerful band and their self-titled new record, Thundermother, is the 13 track result.

If you are unfamiliar with Thundermother, they encompass the passion and energy of the Young Brothers from the 70's with that 3 chord mentality and swagger. Now, they are NOT a rip off of that famous Aussie band, but their vibe is ever present and they kick ass. The self titled new album is sonically pleasing with the drums roofed in the mix, which gives the album a fat and in your face feel, with a ton of energy. Upbeat tunes like, "Racing On Mainstreet" are a perfect vehicle for showing off the vocal talents of new singer, Guernica Mancini, who delivers the goods with all the piss and vinegar and rasp that would make Bon Scott or Brian Johnson give her the thumbs up! Album lead off song, "Revival" features a guitar chord progression reminiscent of AC/DC's Back In Black, but quickly makes a turn."Whatever" is crunchy and will get stuck in your head, while "Fire In The Rain" is Thundermother's first foray into the Power Ballad territory and "Rip Your Heart Out" is an upbeat scorcher with a down and dirty riff and "We Fight For Rock N Roll" is a total Girl Power anthem for 2018!

I have personally been a fan of Thundermother for a few years and this new lineup doesn't disappoint and delivers that AC/DC vibe that they have come to be known for. This self-titled third album is full of groovin', straight ahead, beer drinkin', in your face Rock n Roll with no frills. With good songs, a new singer with gritty and powerful vocals and a high octane 70's approach, Thundermother are back with a trimmed down lineup, but deliver their same ol', great brand of Hard Rock n Roll.
