Australian/UK metal act Destroyer 666 scored a huge hit with both fans & critics alike with their 2016 behemoth Wildfire, and to whet our appetites before they come back with another bulldozing full-length, they and their label Season of Mist have released this 4 song EP titled Call of the Wild. Containing three new songs as well as a re-recording of their classic "Trialed By Fire", Call of the Wild is roughly 20 minutes of traditional heavy metal, blackened death metal, and thrash, in pure Destroyer 666 fashion. "Violence is Golden" contains a piledriving riff and lethal vocal from K.K. Warslut, and as always he and Roland C toss in plenty of scorching lead guitar solos. "Stone By Stone" is pure rampaging thrash, double bass drums blazing underneath manic riffing and venomous growling vocals, while "Call of the Wild" takes on a more blackened thrash attack, guitars blistering and rhythms speedy, the band channeling their inner Venom and doing so quite successfully. And of course, "Trialed By Fire" is a classic any way you look at it, originally from 2003's Terror Abraxas, here given an even more atmospheric & anthemic texture, the riffs huge and the vocals battle ready.
How long we'll have to wait for another full-length platter of music from Destroyer 666 remains to be seen, but with this new EP and a US tour with Watain underway, the guys will be busy at least for the foreseeable future. For now, this will suffice just fine.
