Ghoul and Ill Bill: Split

The pairing of Ill Bill and Ghoul took me by surprise at first, but this is a good little split that fans of extreme music should enjoy. Like other 7" splits, this one only gives listeners two songs. The nice thing about this split is that the music is well done and playful. There's no crossover in terms of the two styles, but both Ill Bill and Ghoul poke fun at each other a little bit.

For those unfamiliar with Ill Bill, he's a rapper with a deep interest in death metal. His lyrics definitely show off a broad awareness in metal, including its long-standing fascination with occult imagery and lyrics. I know some metal fans don't like rap and I doubt Ill Bill will convince you to like it. Still, his track is definitely worth a listen.

As for Ghoul's track, it's terrific. I'll listen to pretty much anything by Ghoul and this song makes me want even more new music. If you already like Ghoul, this song is pretty consistent with the band's earlier work. It's blindingly fast but the guitars never lose that clear and precise sound. I could listen to Ghoul all day.

Track Listing:
1. Ill Bill feat. Goretex: Pentagram
2. Ghoul: Splatterthrash 2, Thrash Damage
