Once again, MoonJune Records does not disappoint, as this new live album from Italian jazz-fusion outfit Slivovitz, titled LiveR is just a monster of epic proportions. Containing seven energetic workouts recorded live in Milan in May of 2016, LiveR features the line-up of:
DEREK DI PERRI harmonica
MARCELLO GIANNINI guitars
VINCENZO LAMAGNA bass
SALVATORE RAINONE drums
CIRO RICCARDI trumpet
PIETRO SANTANGELO tenor saxophone
RICCARDO VILLARI electric violin
All virtuosos, the members get plenty of room to strut their stuff on a selection of strong tracks from their few studio releases. Fans of Mahavishu Orchestra, Frank Zappa, Dixie Dregs, and Snarky Puppy would be well advised to investigate barnstorming live renditions of "Currywurst", "Cleopatra", and "Egiziaca", as trumpet, violin, electric guitar, sax, and harmonica twist and weave around each other in blistering fashion, while the metallic "Negative Creep" is like a bombastic midnight jam between King Crimson, Miles Davis, and Faith No More. For more tranquil, but no less jazzy & quirky sounds, check out the cool ethnic sounds of "Caldo Bagno", which features a trail blazing solo from Giannini.
2018 is off to a great start across multiple musical genres, and LiveR from the always impressive Slivovitz is sure to be one of the best live albums we will hear this year. Outstanding!
