Finland's Vinide is a band that has apparently been a going concern for about fifteen years now. Reveal is, however, my first experience of the band and their particular brand of symphonic metal. Reveal is a science fiction story about a large information technology company called OMEGA and in particular a former employee who finds himself locked in a mental asylum sentenced to death. However, he escapes and all sorts of narrative enigmas ensue. Special mention should go to Finnish graphic designer Petri Lampela for the really quite nice album artwork.
Reveal, erm, reveals itself from beginning to end as an ambitious, fully-fledged piece of progressive metal in the style of Avantasia, Stratovarius and here's the biggie…Ayreon, such is the quality and depth of the music on offer at times. At times the music is complex and forceful as in the first 'proper' tune "The Beginning Scene" yet straightforward melodic metal can also be found on "Breakout". "Believe" ticks the bombastic power metal box and the breakdown in the middle of "Emanuel" even steps into Rhapsody (of Fire's) shoes which I personally think is always a winner – as indeed is "Reveal" itself which deserves to be heard widely.
