Unruly Child made their triumphant return to the melodic/hard rock scene in 2016 with their reunion album Can't Go Home for Frontiers Records, and in 2017 were invited to play the label's annual festival in Milan, Italy, where the band performed their original self-titled debut album in its entirely along with some other classic songs. Unhinged chronicles that performance, showing the band, comprised of Marcie Free (ex-King Kobra, Signal) on vocals, World Trade members Bruce Gowdy (guitars, keyboards, vocals), Guy Allison (keyboards, percussion, vocals), Jay Schellan (drums), and bassist Larry Antonino (Pablo Cruise), in fine form.
Plenty of uptempo, hook laden rockers here, such as "Wind Me Up", "Rock Me Down Nasty", "Tunnel of Love", "Lay Down Your Arms", and "On the Rise", which sit well alongside the emotional ballads like "Is It Over", "Let's Talk About Love", and the soaring "To Be Your Everything". Toss in the gritty yet catchy rockers "When Love is Gone" and "Long Hair Woman", and you have a very well rounded set from the band, though it would have been nice to hear a few tunes from their most recent release. Free sounds just as potent as ever, and the rest of the band also put fine performances. A very, very solid set from a veteran melodic rock act.
