Salt Lake City's classic metal upstarts Visigoth are back with their follow-up to the very fine 2015 debut The Revenant King , their latest for Metal Blade Records, the equally satisfying Conqueror's Oath. Containing eight new songs, Conqueror's Oath is a safe bet for any fan of vintage Manowar, Omen, Cirith Ungol, Manilla Road, Savatage, Iron Maiden, Grand Magus, and Thin Lizzy.
Fronted by the powerhouse pipes of Jake Rogers, the band lets loose on a host of early '80s styled metal anthems here, and this time around the twin guitar tandem of Leeland Campana and Jamison Palmer are really firing on all cylinders, the delicious twin leads flying around in glorious fashion on galloping, fist pumping tracks such as "Warrior Queen", "Steel and Silver", and the early speed metal stylings of "Outlive Them All", the latter a great workout for the rhythm team of drummer Mikey T. and bassist Matt Brotherton. Rogers soars over the swaying power metal workout that is "Hammerforged", and takes on a more emotional tone on the groove laden rocker "Salt City. Fans of the NWOBHM scene will get a kick out of the fantastic melodic speedster "Blades in the Night", complete with some fiery lead guitar work and killer drum fills, while the bands 'epic metal' nature comes out in full force on slower, lengthier songs such as "Traitor's Gate" and the doom laden title track, the latter featuring some sizzling sweep picking from Campana and loads of heavy riffs.
Expertly produced and chock full of one classic metal anthem after another, Conqueror's Oath should see the continued ascension of Visigoth into the upper echelon of today's top young heavy metal acts. Don't miss this one.
