Mammoth Grinder: Cosmic Crypt

I don't suppose anyone knows exactly if 2018 will be even more depressing than 2017 but there's no doubt the New Year is already starting off with some brutal and aggressive music. Mammoth Grinder's new album, their fourth full-length, has been at least five years in the making. Chris Ulsh (Power Trip, Impalers) now added new members Mark Bronzino (Iron Reagan) and Ryan Parrish (Iron Reagan, ex-Darkest Hour) to the mix and the result is a powerful and aggressive set of brutal death metal.

Even if you aren't interested in Mammoth Grinder, check out the cover art by legendary artist Joe Petagno. Petagno is best known for his work on the War Pig for Motorhead but he's also worked with Led Zeppelin, Pink Floyd, and many others. The art for this album is a nice blend of morbidity and ritual. It's a great cover, definitely something fans of album art will like.

As for the music, it sounds great. It was self-recorded by the band, mixed by Arthur Rizk, and mastered by Joel Grind. The result is a hard-driving, crusty, album that is heavy, brutal, and fierce. Fans of Power Trip, Death, or Napalm Death will want to check this out. I recommend "Locust's Nest," "Superior Firepower," and "Rotting Robes."
