Vardan: Nostalgia-Archive of Failures, Part 4, 5, 6
 Vardan's prodigious output continues with 6 separate albums of new and unreleased material. Fans may purchase them as separate albums or as two 3-CD box sets that feature parts 1-3 and parts 4-6, respectively. The box sets also include merchandise including a poster, a patch, a sticker, and a pendant. I suspect that fans of Burzum, Dark Throne, Inquisition, Dark Space, Carpathian Forest, and other similar bands will want to check out these new releases. They're chock full of atmosphere, sadness, and desolation.
For those unacquainted with Vardan, the band is mostly the product of a single musician who plays all the instruments and performs all the vocals. Since 1997, Vardan has released 30 albums and shows no signs of slowing down. He has a strong following especially with fans of depressive and atmospheric black metal. Every track is over 10 minutes long and develops a few motifs that work together to build feelings of sadness, melancholy, and reflection. They are highly repetitive, so some listeners will grow weary while others will turn fascinated. I found it interesting, if somewhat bland. My favorite tracks were those on part 6, perhaps because parts 4 and 5 taught me how to listen or because I simply gave in to the sadness and despair. I'd recommend that interested listeners check out "Nostalgia XVII" and then decide if they want to work backwards through the rest. You'll know.
