Conan: Man is Myth—Early Demos

Normally I wouldn't give much time to recordings like this. Don't get me wrong, demo tracks can be interesting but I prefer the spit and polish of the studio. In this case, however, I'll make the necessary exception because Conan is one of my favorite bands. I'd listen to demos and studio outtakes all day if I could. Conan's style of doom—its raw energy, powerful guitars, and primal vocals—appeals to me in ways I can hardly explain. I never get tired of their music; sometimes I listen to "Crown of Talons" over and over. Doom is always fresh and exciting for me. I could listen to it all day. When I learned of this release, I was hoping for a completely new set of songs but I wasn't disappointed with what I got. The recordings here provide a glimpse behind the scenes and give plenty of evidence that Conan reigns supreme. Most of the tracks will be familiar to fans, but they are no less interesting for that. Each of them is so heavy, especially in terms of the guitars. The vocals, though fairly muted, have all the power and energy we've come to expect from these guys. Highly recommended.
