Across the Line came out a few months ago and to be honest got a little lost in the third quarter rush which it probably shouldn't have. Firstly though, a little about the band. Air raid consists of Fredrik Werner – vocals, Andreas Johansson – guitars, Magnus Mild – guitars, Robin Utbult – bass and David Hermansson – drums. It's taken the band a while to get a settled line-up. Messers Mild and Werner are the newest members of the band. Andreas Johansson says that the album is, "really packed with screaming solos and riffs. The overall feel of the album is melodic but with a very powerful edge. It comes natural for us to blend in neo-classical elements along with the usual heavy metal…Fredrik delivers an amazing performance on vocals. This guy has a monster voice!"
I can't argue with the bit about the voice although I'd like to hear both that and the guitars higher in the mix. It's very noticeable from the first time one sees the cover that Air Raid may well have a bit of a NWOBHM fixation and the music especially the instrumental "Entering the Zone Zero" has a cool twin guitar fixation which is nothing new yet pleasing. None of the songs are complete without a zippy solo and Across the Line is solid if not earth-shattering from start to finish.
