Luminous Eyes is the debut Shadow Kingdom Records EP from Haunt, a new project from Beastmaker vocalist/guitarist Trevor William Church. With Haunt, Church goes out on his own and has created here four tracks of classic metal and hard rock, the shadow of the NWOBHM as well as Thin Lizzy looming large. The opening title track hits both those notes pretty well, the aggressive riffing and twin guitar harmonies front and center, while the galloping "As Fire Burns" brings to mind early Iron Maiden, Def Leppard, and Satan, the rhythms tumultuous and the lead guitars swirling. "No Master" rampages at full speed, the riffs crushing and Church's vocals effective, while "Fallen Star" touches on flashy, Celtic inspired twin lead guitar harmonies and blistering riffs, Church showing here he can do much more than just deliver the doom, which he does so well with Beastmaster.
By the time Luminous Eyes ends at just around the 20-minute mark, you'll wish there was more, so hopefully Trevor William Church takes this idea for Haunt even further, puts together a full band, and delivers more of these vintage styled sounds in the not too distant future.
