Hyperion: Dangerous Days

Here we have some very competent classic metal/speed metal/thrash from Italian act Hyperion, titled Dangerous Days on Fighter Records. Comprised of eight fairly memorable tunes, the band take their inspiration from classic acts such as Annihilator, Grave Digger, Judas Priest, Iron Maiden, and early Megadeth & Metallica. Tunes like "Ultimatum" and the title track chug along with plenty of fire, Michelangelo Carano's vocals showing off a bit of his accent but still pleasing and fitting these guitar centered songs just fine. Though most of the tracks are pretty melodic, it's the more snarling fare like "Incognitus", the crunchy "Ground and Pound" (complete with some neat Thin Lizzy styled dual guitar riffing), and the headbanging fury of "The Killing Hope" that works the best, the guitars of Davide Cotti and Luke Fortini packing quite the punch with no shortage of killer riffs and explosive solos.

Throw in the majestic metal epic "Hyperion" and you have a fun, enjoyable set of classic sounds from this very solid Italian band. Check it out.
