Electric Family, The: Terra Circus
The Electric Family is a German band which formed in '90s by Tom 'The Perc' Redecker. Since then the band has released six studio albums including their latest titled Terra Circus. This is my first experience hearing the band.
I have to say this is an impressive effort from a band I had no idea existed until now. It's always cool to discover new music and such is the case here. The band cover a few different genres like Krautrock, progressive, psychedelic and blues. They have a pretty unique sound and it may take a few spins before this stuff sinks in although the melodies are certainly there.
The disc opens with "Movin" where tribal drums, half sung/half spoken vocals and psychedelic flavoured guitar is really ear catching. A pretty cool psychedelic jam session ensues where the band is completely in sync. Next up is a cover of The Sisters Of Mercy's "Lucrecia, My Reflection". The deep bass groove and spacey keyboards are highlights. The infectious "When Dizzyness Comes Around" hints at country rock while the cover of Can's "Mary, Mary, So Contrary" is like a trip through a murky psychedelic haze with spacey slide guitar and fabulous organ. Stunning stuff for sure and my favourite song the album. Another highlight follows with "Landmark Visions II", another trippy affair with layers of organ and squelching guitar dripping with the psychedelic sounds of the late '60s early '70s.
Terra Circus is another fine album release in 2017 in what is shaping up to be a fantastic year for new tunes. A Sireena Records release.
