Summer Breeze Project (SBP): Contact Part Three

Summer Breeze Project (SBP) is a Dutch progressive rock band which formed in 2008. After their first release Unusual Horizons in 2011 the band set out to record a three part triptych titled Contact. In my hands I hold Contact Part Three, the last in the series. The players remain the same and comprise of:

Gert Bruins (lead vocals, guitars)
Gordon van Pelt (guitars, theremin)
Rene Troostheiden (drums, drum programming, percussion)
Fons Panneman (keyboards, piano, Hammond, synths, soundscapes, backing vocals)
Jørgen de Jonge (bass guitars, backing vocals)

I enjoyed part's one and two so I was looking forward to the third and last in the series. It's one twenty-five minute epic piece that is really a pleasant ending to the series. The effects laden beginning including voice samples and a variety of other sounds is abruptly interrupted with a barrage of heavy riffs, some of the heaviest yet. It's a very catchy chord progressive that threads through the entire track giving plenty of heft when needed. Gert's vocals are again effective as he realizes his vocal limitations and doesn't over sing, a tact I wish more vocalists would use. Solid moments of symphonic keyboards and quieter introspection gives the track some interesting components and enough variety to make a successful epic. Some Pink Floyd-like moments also pop up in the use of acoustic guitar, keys and overall moody vibe.

Now that the three part trilogy is complete, I very much look forward to the band continuing on their journey. Would really like to hear how the band handles a full length album. Hopefully we won't have to wait too long.
