Stallion: From the Dead

Sometimes, all the world needs is just a little bit of old school styled metal. Remember the days when bands like Exciter, Voivod, Cirith Ungol, and Accept first burst on the scene, and you could experience how dangerous and exciting a new metal band could be? That's kind of the feeling you get with From the Dead, the sophomore release from German act Stallion, out now on High Roller Records. With a mix of speedy, near thrash numbers like "Underground Society", "Step Aside", and the title track, to more mid-paced thumpers "Down and Out" and "Hold the Line", Stallion have done a great job harnessing the glorious early '80s metal scene. Lead vocalist Pauly delivers a non stop assault of screeches and high pitched screams, while the twin lead guitar attack of Axxl & Oli pummel your senses over the crack rhythm team of bassist Niki and drummer Aaron. These guys can even throw in some intricate prog-metal too, which you can hear in spots on tunes such as "Lord of the Trenches" and "Awaken the Night".

From the Dead is ultimately a lot of fun and a great step back in time for anyone who enjoys a slice of vintage sounding heavy metal. Nice job guys!
