Your Worst Nightmare is the only full-length Horrific released. When it first appeared back in 2009, it received mixed reviews. Some people loved the song's horror-themed lyrics and the heavy riffing while others thought it sagged too much. But if you missed it then, you can hear it now and decide for yourself. The cover art gives us the right idea—this isn't serious stuff, but it is playful. The album is basically Slasher Dave (Acid Witch) and Billy Nocera (Razorback Recordings / Surgikill) indulging their love of heavy music and horror movies. And it works, for the most part. The band describes the music as a "bizarro mix of 80s heavy metal, thrash, punk, and death metal." The only thing missing here is some surf rock.
I enjoyed the album generally but thought it needed more of the playfulness and humor suggested by the album art. The songwriting is good but uneven. Slasher Dave's riffing (and soloing) is consistently strong but the vocals needed more variety. I especially liked "Dead to Midnight," but that's probably because the main riff is basically Motley Crue's "Live Wire," an old favorite. Check out "Tales Too Terrible To Tell."
