All 41: The World's Best Hope

First things first; my word, doesn't the cover look like Alias (the band, you know, they used to be Sheriff?) No, it really, really does, too much so to be a coincidence I would suggest. Second things second; I have a great deal of time for the protagonists within the band All 41 which is – and I am definitely quoting here, "not just another project coming out of Frontiers President Serafino Perugin's imaginative A&R abilities, but it is very close to the hearts of every musician involved." Not that the presence of the never-knowingly-unemployed Alessandro Del Vecchio suggests otherwise, no siree, not a chance.

I'm pleased to report that the seemingly disparate talents of Terry Brock on lead vocals (Giant, Strangeways) together with Robert Berry (Three, Alliance) on bass and vocals, Gary Pihl (Boston, Sammy Hagar, Alliance) on guitar and Matt Starr (Ace Frehley, Mr Big) on drums have actually made a surprisingly cohesive album which is very much worthy of the time of any melodic rock fan. I have to say that the music contained within The World's Best Hope from the opening, "yeah, yeah," of "After the Rain" to the end of the title track is about as fashionable as the Charleston but there's nothing here that doesn't merit being classed as at least good. There's the odd cringeworthy lyric such as the , dangerous girl, make no mistake," in "Cyanide"– you know, "the one who makes you feel like you're walking on air," but taken as a whole this definitely one of the better Frontiers projects.
