Clearly the Frontiers Rock Festival is not just a rock festival, it's a place where the label's acts can pretty easily record a live album and shove out some more product. It's a sensible business model and Graham Bonnet and his band are the latest act to go to Milan and come away with a souvenir. Coming on the back of the band's recent album The Book which also had a disc of re-recorded classics the cynical amongst us might be hearing the sound of the barrel being scraped but let's be charitable shall we?
Charitable we should be as well as Bonnet and his band (Beth-Amy Heavenstone – bass, Conrado Pesinato – guitars, Mark Zonder – Drums and mystery keyboard player) do full justice to a very fine career. There are name checks and songs by Yngwie Malmsteen, Michael Schenker, Steve Vai and of course, the two massive Rainbow hits. Bonnet's Alcatrazz era gets a good going over as does the splendid solo hit "Mind Games". The man himself seems in good voice throughout and since it has been over three decades since his last live video (and this comes as a DVD version) we shall finish by saying that this is a pretty decent tribute to a sometimes less celebrated rock star.
