Tricky Lobsters: Worlds Collide

Clutch-meets-Mastodon-meets-Deep Purple on the latest release from German heavy rockers Tricky Lobsters, titled Worlds Collide, out now on Exile on Mainstream. Together as a band for twenty years, the trio of Sarge (vocals, guitar), Doc (bass, vocals), and Captain Peters (drums, vocals) have played just about every form of aggressive music over the years, but lately have settled on a bluesy hard rock, stoner, sludge sound long on big fat guitar riffs, booming bass, plodding drum fills, and vocals soaked in attitude. Worlds Collide contains 9 tracks, most falling between 4 and 7 minutes, so the album doesn't overstay it's welcome one bit. From the Hammond organ & guitar fueled mayhem of the energetic opener "Bitter Man's Fame" to the thick Clutch inspired romps of "Big Book" and "Tarred Albino", there's lots of muscle to go around. Even the more laid back & atmospheric blues rock of "Black and Blue" has a certain amount of 'heft' to it, but it's the groove laden stoner rockers "Father and Son" and "The Fire" that generate the most heat, Sarge's fuzzy riffs smashing through powerful rhythms for a hard rockin' good time.

Worlds Collide is ultimately a rewarding listen for anyone into stoner & heavy blues rock, and further proof that the veterans Tricky Lobsters still have plenty of fire left in the tank.
