That Rock Guy: Nothin To Lose

That Rock Guy is the moniker given to this Australian singer, songwriter, multi-instrumentalist and producer – a man who has just come off the back of a three year tour during which time he performed more than one thousand shows. A pretty impressive work ethic by anyone's standards. Having been offered a deal by AOR Heaven to record this debut album TRG utilised studios in Germany, Sweden, Japan, Holland and the Middle East to lay down ten slices of hard rocking and melodic 80's inspired tunes that are big on choruses, hooks and killer solos. Fans of Night Ranger, 80's era Rainbow, Van Halen, Journey etc will find much of interest here.

Leading the charge is 'Superstar' and vocally TRG immediately draws comparisons with Cuts Like a Knife / Reckless era Bryan Adams which is no bad thing. With so many live shows behind him TRG has certainly taken the time to hone his songwriting craft and the album features a virtual avalanche of wildly catchy tunes that would have been sure fire hits back in the glorious 80's. This is gimmick free hard edged melodic rock from start to finish with the stand out moments including power laden 'Through the Night', 'Can't Get Enough of You' and 'Land of the Rising Sun' but in actual fact all ten songs here are terrific fun and TRG has delivered a great album from start to finish. Like your rock hard, heavy and melodic? Then you can't go wrong with That Rock Guy.
