Caruso, Frank: Kaleidoscope Vol. II

Italian guitar virtuoso, Frank Caruso, (of the Prog Metal band Arachnes) has released his latest solo and guitar fan friendly record for Lion Music entitled Kaleidoscope Vol II. This 12 track tour de force of guitar shred is filled with tasty playing and interesting songs that set up Caruso's riff carnage,

Combining a plethora of different styles from Neo-Classical, Metal, Blues, Hard Rock and even elegant Acoustic styling's, Frank Caruso really delivers the goods throughout this sonically pleasing effort. His playing is aggressive with a technical, precise and surgeon like precision all delivered with a killer guitar tone that just sings with his lyrical approach to soloing. Think a mix of Yngwie, Vinnie Moore and Satch and you're barking up the right tree.

The album begins with a slightly different approach, as it opens with a beautiful fingerstyle Acoustic piece called, "Silent Lake". A song like this is usually the CD closer, but it is an interesting way to open an otherwise Metal guitar record. Vocalist Bob Rock (Axel Rudi Pell, Impellitteri, M.A.R.S.) was enlisted to sing on the only song with vocals on it, "Higher Ground" and it is also the lead single.

Fans of heavy guitar instrumental music that is done extremely well will want to check out Kaleidoscope Vol II by Frank Caruso. His guitar playing is excellent and more importantly the songs are interesting vehicles for him to solo within, which ties everything together. The guitar is the star on this record and it is well done.
