Wasserfuhr, Julian & Roman: Landed in Brooklyn

The German tandem of trumpeter Julian Wasserfuhr and his brother Roman, a pianist, have released their latest effort titled Landed in Brooklyn on the ACT Music label. The full band is:

Julian Wasserfuhr (trumpet and flugelhorn)
Roman Wasserfuhr (piano, marimba, seaboard)
Donny McCaslin (tenor saxophone)
Tim Lefebvre (electric and double bass)
Nate Wood (drums)

This is the brothers fifth album following Running released in 2005. The opening track "Bernie's Tune" is an upbeat and feel good number highlighted by trumpet and sax working some wonderful magic together. The piano solo that soon follows is another melodic highlight. With "Tutto" the funky bass and drums form the backdrop for outstanding trumpet and piano solos. The wonderful "Tinderly" follows suit featuring more tasty brass as the multiple solos and rhythms should keep any jazz fan completely enraptured. "Durch den Monsun" is another melodic tour d force where the tenor saxophone and trumpet solos are as good as it gets. Fabulous musicianship had by all.

Landed in Brooklyn is contemporary jazz played at a very high level. Really, if you are a jazz fan this is a no brainer.
