Nightrage: The Venomous

Starting out in 2000 and hailing from Greece, Nightrage has become known as the band that helped release guitar whiz, Gus G, onto the Metal world. Cut to 2017 and the bands 7th album, The Venomous, has been released to cosmos. Fans of old school Swedish styled Melodic Death Metal will embrace this brutal, yet catchy record.

Band leader and co-founder (along with the long departed Gus G) Marios Iliopoulos has pushed on all of these years and with The Venomous has unleashed a record with strong hooky melodies along with aggressive riffing and screaming vocals over the top. Songs like, "Trail of Ghosts", the title track "The Venomous" and the old school In Flames-ish sounding, "In Abhorrence" are all excellent examples of what Nightrage have to pummeling down your throat in 2017. No compromise, honest and savage are what they very heavy handedly bringing to the table. Guitars are jacked up to the forefront of the mix and they don't disappoint. Iliopoulos and Magnus Söderman bring the guitar fury all throughout The Venomous with some shreddie and fiery guitar work.

Staying current AND honest to what your band is all about is often a very difficult task and Nightrage are doing their best to do both. The Venomous is a good slab of old school Melodic Death Metal under the concept of mankind's own self destruction and the hunger for war. The Venomous is a consistent 12 track album, though this type of thing is not all that groundbreaking, but it is good.
