Various Artists: Great Guitars at Sun

You can think of this as a companion disc to Great Drums at Sun which I recently reviewed. Great Guitars at Sun features tracks by such luminaries as Johnny Cash, Carl Perkins, Elvis Presley, Howlin' Wolf, Dick Penner and many others. As you may have surmised the guitar is the focus this time and as such this is quite the rocking album.

Some of the highlights include the blistering guitar work of Al Hopson in the Warren Smith sung "Miss Froggie", the honkytonk piano and fiery chord progressions in the rocking "We Wanna Boogie" and the pure blues of "Cotton Crop Blues" where the guitar of Pat Hare is really quite stunning considering the year was 1954. Cash's country romp "Folsom Prison Blues" and Howlin' Wolf's "Come Back Home" featuring the guitar work of Willie Johnson are more great tracks. That is just a small sampling of what you will find here.

Classic rock and roll, blues and rockabilly just makes one feel good and Great Guitars at Sun combines some great tracks for your listening pleasure. As with Great Drums at Sun this one earns my heartfelt recommendation.
