Steelfall: The Event Horizon

Formed in the early part of 2016 in Lisbon, Portugal, Steelfall, quickly gelled as a band and wrote songs in the vein of Trivium and As I Lay Dying and their debut record, The Event Horizon (Raging Planet), has just been released. Sporting 11 tracks of classic Metal meets modern Thrash, Steelfall are a guitar oriented band for sure.

The Event Horizon melds elements of Thrash, Death and traditional Metal into songs filled with catchy riffing and melodic chorus'. Vocals are delivered in a now genre typical, "Clean and Grunty" fashion that allow the melodic chorus' to stand out against the harsh growled contrast of the other vocals. A tune like, "Your Betrayal" is a good example of this vocal use-age and has a Soilwork type of vibe to it.

"The Fall Of Men" is another song that effectively uses this vocal contrast and highlights the clean vocals that show a reminiscence to the great Urban Breed (ex-Tad Morose, Bloodbound, Project Arcadia). "Ethereal" is a pounder of a song, filled with double kick drums and a nasty groove and "Open Your Eyes" shows a heavy, almost progressive side of the band that is easily a stand out track.

Sonically, The Event Horizon is a well produced, good sounding record with some good musical performances. However, song wise you won't really find anything that you haven't heard before from this genre. Steelfall don't really sound like any one band, but they sound familiar, in a good way. This is a good debut record but it isn't a "must own now" type of thing.
