It's all about the weed folks...that's the theme for Over the Edge, the latest release from Oakland stoner act Connoisseur. Fourteen brief songs that let you fully understand how important marijuana is to this band, housed within songs that have a garage punk/stoner vibe, complete with plenty of meaty riffs and a myriad of vocal bellows, screams, shouts, and growls. Most of the tracks are so brief they are over before you know it, Connoisseur more inclined to speed through hardcore/punk styled mashers than toil in normal stoner/sludge/doom arrangements, and while the vocals are all over the place and provide some variety, they are easily the weakest aspect here. To be honest, I'm finding much of Over the Edge to be a tad juvenile, with tracks like "Boulevard of Broken Bongs", "Live to Smoke", "I'd Rather Be Smoking Weed", and "Free the Weed" getting a tad tedious...we get it, you love pot, but a whole damn album? Some might find this a lot of fun, but I think this band can do a lot better.
