After having initial difficulty in reviewing Alternative History by Karda Estra I decided that I was trying to review what the CD wasn't instead of focusing on what it was. Alternative History is a showcase for guitarist/composer Richard Wileman's genius.
I kept struggling with the fact that this music had more to do with New Age than Progressive Rock or Jazz. But when you take the time to break down the instrumentation and to enjoy the places where the stunning voice of Ileesha Bailey is used, you understand why Karda Estra appeals to such a vast audience.
The CD contains releases from five different formal Karda Estra CDs. In addition, there are tracks that were released only on compilation CDs. The music, although from different time periods and concepts, blends together to set the perfect atmosphere.
Karda Estra's Alternative History is a perfect starting point to those that are new to Wileman's music.
