Genghis Tron: Cloak Of Love

Cloak of Love is the debut EP of Genghis Tron. A first effort that contains 5 songs seems like something worth reviewing. But the total time of all 5 songs is 12:43. I have reviewed many CDs where the opening number is longer than that.

It doesn't take long to understand why these 5 songs only take up less than a quarter hour. It is because there isn't enough originality on Cloak of Love to hit that 15 minute mark.

The concept is simple. Blend two very disparate soundscapes (Electronic Pop and Metal Core) into a new and creative CD. Great concept, bad execution. The problem lies with the "blending". There is none. It is Metalcore and then Pop and then Metalcore and then Pop and the transition is harsh and ineffective.

As bad as the above might sound, it still is an ambition that is worth pursuing. The secret is to get some help with songwriting. This sounds like music that 3 college kids messed around with in their dorm room. And that is exactly what Genghis Tron is; three college kids with good drive, but still needing some education.
