Power Trip: Nightmare Logic

It's been a few years since Power Trip's last album, but this one's worth the wait. Power Trip When I reviewed the band on this site, I suggested that they performed thrash from the streets. I meant that the band's raw talent, aggressive style, and skilful songwriting led to good music, the kind without posturing or pretense. Unlike some genres of extreme music, good thrash is hard to fake.

Good thrash—I remember friends using that expression to indicate bands that got it right. You know what I mean: this is solid, heavy, and powerful thrash, the kind many of us want to hear. On this album, the band crosses elements of hardcore, punk, and metal into thrash in ways reminiscent of Exodus, Cro-Mags, and others. Yes, there's an old school vibe to the whole thing but Power Trip isn't necessarily on a nostalgia trip. Their mission is much simpler—to play good thrash. And they succeed. Just check out "If Not Us Then Who," "Soul Sacrifice," or "Firing Squad" and you'll see what I mean. Highly recommended.
