It's not like there has been a shortage of classic metal groups over the years, with many of those veteran acts still rocking hard and newer groups continuing to surface inspired by the old guard. Marta Gabriel is the vocalist, guitarist, composer and also founder of one such traditional metal group called Crystal Viper. The Polish band which was started n 2003 was very active with five albums and widespread touring in many countries. This all came to a halt in 2013 but that was to be short lived as now the band is back on track, and with a new album Queen Of The Witches. Queen Of The Witches has guest spots including that of guitarist Ross The Boss (Manowar) on "Do Or Die", and a guitar solo by Jeff Mantas Dunn (Venom) on "Flames And Blood". Queen Of The Witches was produced by Bart Gabriel (Cirith Uungol,Sacred Steel, Mythra),and that classic cover artwork is the work of Andreas Marschall (Running Wild, Blind Guardian, Kreator). Crystal Viper are obviously massive fans of classic heavy/power metal and that's what you get on Queen Of The Witches with lively numbers, slower heavy tunes, and moving ballads. Whilst I don't find myself being drawn to everything on here Queen Of The Witches has plenty going for it. Such as their performances and memorable tracks including the spirited "Rise Of The Witch Queen" and the slow and mighty "When the Sun Goes Down".
